MSI 9600GT Sports "Turbo" Overclocking Button

The time I can remember seeing a PC with a turbo button was about 1992, and I can't say I ever noticed the omission from subsequent systems. MSI seems to think there's still a demand for such a feature, though, because TweakTown has spotted a 9600GT at an MSI exposition in Taiwan which is set to overclock at the press of, you guessed it, a big red turbo button.

MSI's hard-wired button will automatically up the core and memory clock speeds and, giving it an advantage over software alternatives, the card's operating voltages. In theory that should enable MSI's 9600GT to reach greater overclocking heights than a software solution.

In addition to that, the card will pack a huge 2GB of GDDR3 RAM, DisplayPort, HDMI, dual DVI outputs and even optical output. Whether all these can be used at once is unknown, but unlikely given what we've seen on other cards. Nonetheless, cramming so much onto a relatively small card is an impressive feat by MSI.

The card will be demoed at Computex, which kicks off next week, before which the card is being fine tuned. Some more tweaking needs to be done to allow the card to overclock in SLI configurations, as this is currently not possible. Pricing seems reasonably in line with standard GeForce 9600s; while not confirmed MSI says it should be between $250 and $300 - hopefully towards the lower end of that range.
