Logitech To Make Wiimote For PC.

While it has to be admitted that it is not often that a mouse can be referred to as 'cool' the latest offering from Logitech may well fall under that heading. Even on the desk Logitech's newly announced MX Air certainly looks fantastic in a striking black and orange finish. Doing away with a mechanical scroll wheel the MX Air instead features a touch-sensitive scroll pad which sports inertial scrolling. (In other words the faster you move your finger, the faster you scroll on the PC)

When not on the desk, however, the MX Air has one additional party trick. By incorporating motion sensors the MX Air can be used to navigate through menus in, for example, Windows Media Center and similar programs. This function is expanded upon with the ability of the mouse to interpret ‘gestures’ and translate them into useful interaction with a PC. Users can change volume, skip tracks and perform additional actions in this manner so to change the volume you would press the volume button and wave your hand right to increase and left to decrease. Supposedly the MX Air will use "sophisticated algorithms" to differentiate between intentional and accidental movement.

Slated for an August release with a $149.99 and £99 RRP in the US and UK respectively, the MX Air will have to compete with products such as the (not at all similarly named) Gyration GO 2.4 Air Mouse (shown above) which have the advantage of already having had years in the market to mature and, arguably more importantly, retail for almost half the asking price. There can be no doubting the offering from Logitech looks better, but is that enough?
