LG's Prada II Official - Disappointing

Haven't we been here before?

Yes, we have. In April the Prada II specifications appeared, then in September Prada II features were finalised. Now they're official.

So what do we learn? In all honesty not a great deal, and behind the show stoppers it has to be argued the Prada II may not be quite all we hoped and dreamed about. Straight off the bat, the big news is the addition of a physical slide out Qwerty keyboard which will be a boon to some but also leave others scratching their head. After all, wouldn't refining a virtual keyboard make more sense than seemingly admitting defeat?

On the plus side however the Prada II now sports 7.2Mbit compatible HSDPA, a five megapixel camera with Schneider-Kreuznach certified lens, Html capable browser, WiFi and VGA video recording. So far, so (keyboard aside) excellent.

Where the Prada II may run into problems however is the handset is otherwise identical to the first (no GPS!) and still features the same UI which for anyone who read our Prada review you'll know is a major problem. What's more, while the handset is vastly thicker now (16.8mm verses 12mm) and heavier, it is also far more expensive with LG quoting a sim free RRP of *wait for it* 600 euros (£469). Apologies for making the obvious comparison, but with a sim free 16GB iPhone retailing for £399 I know where most people's / the smart money would be going.

All of which is something of a shame since it feels like LG has missed an opportunity with the Prada II. On the other hand, it looks like one they won't be passing up with the soon to be released KC910. Stay tuned...
