LG Unveils New Android Smartphones & Promises Tablet

Oh LG how you tease us...

Today Samsung's would-be slayer has unveiled no less than three major new Android smartphones, given away no hard specs and then promised an Android-based tablet - again with no details.

Consequently we can't delve into the depths we'd like, but we can tell you the names of the high powered quadruplets are the 'Optimus Z' (left), 'Optimus One' (middle) and 'Optimus Chic' (right). The Z will be the flagship designed to tackle the Droid X, the One will be the entry-leveller, the Chic a handset targeting da kidz. LG also announced the 'Optimus Q' - a rebranded 'Ally' which the company announced on Verizon last month.

The best news is all these models will launch with Android 2.2 - which suggests manufacturers are going to step up and start giving us the greatly improved new version of Google's fast evolving smartphone OS. The worst news is they are currently all headed for Korea and we have no international launch info.

As for the tablet all LG revealed is it will ship sometime in Q3/Q4 which means anytime from now to Christmas and I doubt it will be a million miles away from the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

All of which just makes me ever more cynical about the chances of the Windows Phone 7 "ad-serving machine". Maybe Windows 8 will have to do it all...

What, no Prime? ;)

It seems to me LG are getting shuffled off the market. I mean Samsung are just wasting everyone with Powerhouse devices, Nokia has gone quiet - N8... and Sonyericsson are struggling. Maybe LG has something special in the wardrobe but it definitely is not any of those devices.

I have never seen such undesirable slabs of boredom and mediocrity since, well the last LG phone. They should stick to making fridges, at least until they manage to hire a designer with some inspiration.

Can't really single LG out that much though, almost all phones these days just look like computer generated copies, much like the car industry. Oh, for a bit of inefficiency, individuality and fun!

Life's Good :)

Wow those phones are drab. Good to see LG have also chosen to cripple them with their own custom UI.

Does no one understand that vanilla Android is a feature and selling point of it's own!
