T-Mobile Confirms & LG Hints At Android Handsets

Google has already started to put the boot into the iPhone and now its partner recruitment appears to be stepping up a notch.

An interesting side story to the Secret launch yesterday was an admission by LG execs that it was 'monitoring' progress of Android and an admittance that it would consider pursuing "any" platform for which customers showed demand.

Essentially then we talking about a "Wait and See" approach, but one that is refreshingly open about trying to give customers what they want. Quite frankly, given this response I would be amazed if LG didn't have a prototype Android handset or two buried away in its labs. After all, should the open source OS take-off it won't want to be left treading water.

As for T-Mobile its approach is far more straightforward. "I'm impressed," said Joe Sims - T-Mobile's Broadband and New Business VP and GM - of Android. "We will have more than one product {there} will be innovation across the board, not just one device."

Given that T-Mobile is well known to rebrand HTC devices and HTC has, to date, been Android's most proactive backer I would suspect this translates to: we'll be releasing its offerings starting with the Dream.

Guess we'll all have a better idea come 6 May...
