Ever wonder how much it would cost for you to own a “superphone”? Well it appears as if the not-insubstantial sum of £499 is the answer.

Last week at CES we reported on the unveiling of the LG Optimus 2X as the world’s first superphone, as it was the first phone to have the dual-core Tegra 2 processor inside. In Las Vegas we got a chance to see the phone in action and it certainly is a pretty good looking device. While no pricing was unveiled at the show, Expansys has placed the device on pre-order, costing £499 SIM-free in the UK.

The website says that if you place an order for the LG phone today (January 11) you can expect delivery within 41 days – which would indicate February 21 as the date the phone will become available in the UK. The 2X is due to ship in South Korea this month before being rolled out across Europe and in the rest of Asia.

While the Optimus 2X was the first dual-core processor to come to the market, CES also saw the unveiling of the Motorola Atrix which also has Nvidia’s Tegra 2 processor powering it. One of the major disappointments in relation to the Optimus 2X is that it will ship with Android 2.2 (Froyo) rather than 2.3 (Gingerbread) but LG promise to release an upgrade schedule for each region in the near future.

So far we have not had any confirmation regarding the availability of the Optimux 2X with any carrier in the UK but no doubt most of them will want to become the home of the world’s first superphone.
