We get many Merry Christmas and Season's Greetings cards and emails from manufacturers here at TR, but one company has decided to step up from wishes and give everyone a bit of a pressie...
For the whole of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, VoIP guru Jajah is giving all its members the first 60 minutes of every call they make completely free.
This works out rather well since Jajah did some digging last Christmas and discovered we Brits pay more for our Christmas calls than anywhere else in Europe making an incredible 172m of them at a cost of nearly £250m. Even more surprising, the average UK family spends an average of £10.06 for calls on Christmas day alone - based upon a median of seven calls: one local, two mobile, two national calls and two international for 10 minutes each on a standard BT package - so the savings could help you buy yourself a gift you actually want.
Should you be short of small talk during your dry Christmas turkey lunch here are a few other Chrimbo day calling stats to memorise:
*The majority of local calls are made between 10:13 and 10:57am, whilst the peak for international calls is 3:13pm
*Italy closely follows the UK as the second most expensive country to make calls on Christmas Day, spending £220m (€325m) and an average of £9.98 per household
*France and Benelux are the next most expensive, costing families £8.78 in France and £7.79 in Benelux
*French telecoms companies are set for a Christmas day bonanza, being the country expected to make the most from household calls on Christmas day - a staggering £447.5m (€663m)
*Spain is the least expensive for Christmas calls in Europe, charging callers a total of £139.7m (€207m) and an average of £6.02
Granted these aren't likely to wake granny from her mid-meal nap or momentarily distract Auntie Ethel from trying to steal the leftover brandy, but now you know.
Lucky inhabitants in the US, Germany, Austria, Israel and Italy will also be eligible for the Jajah offer so anticipate calls from the ex-pats as well. For full details and registration info check out the link below. Oh and hide that brandy!
