When I say “faster than a greased whippet wearing a nitrous jet pack, going down a buttered slide… on the main page, you do realise I was referring to the PR team, right? (though apparently the graphics card itself is no slouch)
In recent months Info-Tek has made itself a habit of getting news to us of its ATI cards first and this time around, it’s a biggie. The X1800 series is the long awaited (over-waited?) pinnacle of the Canadian’s new R520 architecture and the XT is king of that. Wisely then, Info-Tek has decided not to mess around renaming the card Super this, or Hydro' that or changed its named to an endless baffling code (pay attention Gigabyte). Instead we just have the GeCube X1800XT in all its overdue (androgynous redhead packaged) glory.
At the heart of this unpunctual beast is a 625Mhz core clock, with memory running at 1.5GHz. 512MB of GDDR3 RAM has been slapped on top and all the usual bells are whistles are present and correct (S/HDTV-out, Dual DVI, D-Sub, Video-In, Crossfire support, etc etc). We’ve already done a preview of the XT and its XL variant so if you want some benchmarks click here.
Info-tek will also release a high end X1800XL (500MHz core, 1GHz memory), midrange X1600 (500MHz core, 700MHz memory) and entry level X1300 (450MHz core, 533MHz memory) simultaneously, with passively cooled versions of the latter imminent. Prices have yet to be announced, but we’ll grab them for you ASAP. Start looking for the cards appearing on the web from today.
We’re tempted to ask Info-Tek’s PR team to do a press release on next week’s national lottery, that way we could probably get our winning numbers registered before the draw…
