Honey! I Shrunk The Boy

It hasn’t got the attention of the Nintendo Revolution (of which more later) but the Game Boy Micro could well be the bigger hit for the battling Japanese company.

We all know in the console world Nintendo has its hands full, but portable gaming is a little more open. After all, the delicious PSP is in a different price bracket and Microsoft has already declared it has no intention of making a rival device anytime soon. With this in mind, the Game Boy Micro could be a winner.

Shrunk down from the already svelte Advance SP, the Micro claims to have just the same power while measuring a Thumbelina-esque 10 x 5 x 1.8cm and weighing a Lilliputian 79g. We’re talking mobile phone/iPod mini tiny.

Despite this the Micro still sports a 5.1cm screen (with adjustable brightness level) that is straddled by the familiar Game Boy controls. A headphone socket will ensure you don’t drive everyone crazy within a 10 metre radius and the removable face plate allows for some customisation.

Nintendo has yet to specific battery life or give an RRP (expect it to be very reasonable), but - given that it will hit the market this autumn - I can see it being a big favourite for stockings this Christmas (and just think of the space there would still be inside for other presents!).
