If you just had a hard day in the boardroom trying to decide which small company to buy out this week and are looking for a way to relax in the evening then Projection Design may have the product for you. According to Projection Design, its new M80 projector is designed to slot into the price-range of home cinema setups costing in the region of £50,000 which, apparently, includes ‘hundreds of installations nationwide.’
For your money you’ll be getting a projector from the same design and R&D labs as the Koenigsegg car, owners of which probably form a large segment of the M80’s target market. The important features include a full-HD ready 1080p image (a clear must at this price level), HDMI 1.3 connectivity, a dual-lamp illumination system intended to improve the consistency of lighting across the projected image and 10-bit digital and analogue image processing.
Using a proprietary 3-chip DLP design, Projection Design claim to have gone as far as designing their own assembly robot to ensure accurate alignment of the prisms in the projector. The quoted 50,000:1 contrast level is based on “initial prototype results” and as such should be taken with a pinch of salt, but given the lack of an industry-standard measure, such statistics can never be relied on too heavily anyway.
No firm pricing had been given for the M80 yet and release is slated for Q4 2007 or Q1 2008.
