Hey DJ, Spin Those 'Pods!

If you listen to a friend of mine who is a DJ, then all the skill has gone out of the craft in recent years. Songs are played in close to a stop start manner, no one takes the time to mix midtrack and when he saw a ‘so-called DJ’ at a club recently who was using CDs, I needed to physically restrain him. So I thought I’d email him about this…

From Numark, this traditionalist’s worst nightmare has predictably been christened the ‘iDJ’ and, as you can see, the whole concept of disc shaped media has now gone out the window completely. Replacing it is our ubiquitous friend, the iPod. Duplicate sets of controls handle each player and universal iPod docks ensure they charge when connected.

The look of the device is a pretty good (an email from aforementioned my friend describes it as ‘Retarded’) and the colour scheme is a decent match (“No it isn’t” apparently, same source). Additional devices can be added in via phono and line inputs and there is USB connectivity too. The “Fisher Price DJ Toy” (as it has been renamed from an obvious source) has an RRP of £259.99 including VAT, but I’ve spotted it on sale at Amazon - amongst other retailers - for considerably less.

Despite all the jibes, this is certainly some harmless fun and I’m sure even my mate can see that if he just drops the aficionado act for five minutes… (I can’t repeat what he said).
