If the web seems a little quieter than usual today then its probably because all the techies are off playing the new multiplayer component of Half-Life 2 that has been released today. Two maps have been included, finally giving you the first chance to kill your mates by chucking a toilet at them with the gravity gun - which actually is is as much fun as it sounds.
The release is something of a surprise as it was assumed that Counter-Strike: Source would fulfil the role of Half-Life’s 2 multiplayer.
The update is free, via Valve’s online Steam utility eveb for those who own Half-Life 2 by way of the ATI voucher scheme, which originally advertised as being for the single player game only. It seems someone changed their minds on this, perhaps to make up for the game being delayed a year.
Also included in this update is a Half-Life 2 Source SDK. This includes game code needed to create Half-Life 2:Source maps so we can look forward to new levels created by the online community before too long.
