HTC has been conspicuously quiet on the tablet front since....well, in fact we have had not an official word from the Taiwanese phone manufacturing giant regarding said tablets ever. Could that all be set to change next week in Mobile World Congress (MWC)?
According to the Chinese-language newspaper, Economic Daily, HTC are all set to unveil a 7in Android 2.3 tablet which will be in shops as soon as March. This news comes only days prior to the start of MWC and we will be there to bring you all the latest new from HTC’s press conference which takes place at 9.30am next Tuesday. The report in the Economic Daily says that the 7incher from HTC will have a new HTC Sense UI laid over Android Gingerbread to make it look and work better on the larger form factor.
These latest rumours come after a flurry of speculation last month about a supposed HTC Flyer tablet and a HTC Scribe tablet being unveiled at MWC. However these rumours came via the ever-unreliable DigiTimes and the Economic Daily also relays news that HTC plans to roll out two Android 3.0 tablets later in 2011. With the Motorola Xoom only a couple of weeks away from release in the US, it seems as if HTC might be looking to get its share of the Android tablet market rather than waiting until the summer for the release of its Honeycomb devices.
We will have to wait and see what HTC will bring to MWC next week but you will be the first to hear from our reporters on the ground in Barcelona.
