Has HTC deliberately 'leaked' its own launch?
A previously unknown blog called 'Superior Gadgets News' launched yesterday not to talk about the controversial iPhone v1.1.1 update, the launch of Halo 3, the XP sales extension, Amazon MP3, heck even the new Slingboxes. Nope, it posted just one completely exclusive item: the HTC 'Touch Slide'.
Rumoured to be one of the highlights of Monday's 'Q4 Line-Up' launch which HTC is heavily promoting to journalists (I've had two reminders already), the handset will get chins wagging. Could it possibly be a deliberately staged plant? In my opinion it certainly looks that way.
Taking its 'exclusive' to hitherto unseen lengths, Superior Gadgets News even has a Touch Slide (codenamed the 'Nike') in its possession and compares it to an iPhone and what looks to be a TyTN II/Vario III. So what do we learn?
That the handset - which the blog impartially describes as a "truly amazing little device that packs a lot of power and looks incredibly slick" - is much more than a simple upgrade to the mediocre Touch with a Blackberry-esque SureType keyboard, 2MP camera, fast 400MHz processor, 256/126MB of ROM/RAM, WiFi and 3G connectivity. It also seems to have maintained the slim lines of its predecessor. If you can handle SureType it could be a winner...
Naturally enough, 'Superior Gadget News' promises to be back tomorrow with more info on another "very cool new HTC smartphone (since that is the only company it is reporting!) along with a video of the new TouchFlo interface. Sounds intriguing, but totally staged...
I'll bring you full *air quotes fingers* 'Official News' of the HTC launch when I get back from it on Monday.
