HTC recently launched a series of updated phones with the S moniker. The Desire S and Wildfire S were updates of handsets we'd seen on this side of the Atlantic before, but the incredible S was the first Incredible to make it to this part of the world and it's available to order today, a lot earlier than anticipated.
The Incredible S is a 4.1in beast and is the successor to the Droid Incredible which was never released on this side of the world. The Incredible S boasts a 1 GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 processor, an 8 megapixel camera capable of 720p HD video recording and a front-facing 1.3 megapixel camera. At launch in Mobile World Congress last week, HTC told us we would be seeing the Incredible S in Q2 but low and behold if it hasn’t gone on sale this morning. Head over to mobiles.co.uk and you’ll see the Incredible for sale on Vodafone or O2 from free (with an upgrade) on a £30-a-month contract. This is a couple of months earlier than the slated April launch.
However while some may be tempted by the Incredible S‘s industrial design chassis, others will be put off by the fact the Incredible S will ship with Android 2.2 (Froyo) out of the box rather than Gingerbread which the Desire S and Wildfire S will be shipped with. HTC promise an OTA update soon after launch but as we all know updates on Android devices can hit-and-miss at best.
So anyone out there looking forward to being Incredible for the first time, or will the Froyo put you off?
