The HTC Desire HD has received an official price and release date. The much anticipated handset is available now for pre-order on Vodafone, with availability from 14 October.

It will be available for free on a £35, two-year contract. For this amount you’ll get 900 minutes, unlimited texts and 750MB of mobile data. You’ll also get 5MB (yes, 5MB) of European roaming data bundled in.

However, this is for online orders only and if you go for the bricks and mortar route you’ll have to make do with 600 minutes, and 500MB of data. You’ll still get unlimited texts though.

The HTC Desire HD is getting smartphone fans salivating at its 4.3in 480 x 800 resolution display, 1GHz processor, 802.11n Wi-Fi, and 8-megapixel camera with flash and Face Detection and 720p video recording. It has Android 2.2 running the show enhanced with HTC’s Sense UI.

Seems you can pre-order the HD on a few of the UK networks:

Aye but third party sites don't really count.

I'll give you one for £50 a month for 5 years, if you like. Pre-order now.

I wonder if this'll result in a price drop for the normal Desire when the HD finally hits the shops?

5Mb? It would make more sense if that was 5Gb, otherwise that data plan is not very good.

Im interested in one of these, I love my Desire. There's no damn way I'll ever have another smart phone from a telco though! Im going back to buying sim free!

noTHINGface: Amen. I have a few suggestions for where they can insert their 24-month plans.
