HP Recalls 70,000 Laptop Batteries

Just when you think we've heard the last of battery recalls, HP goes and proves you wrong. Apparently unrelated to any previous recall "HP and the battery cell manufacturer believe that certain battery packs shipped in HP notebook PC products manufactured between August 2007and January 2008 may pose a potential safety hazard to customers."

If you bought an HP laptop during that period you'll want to check if it's included in this recall with HP. Unless you don't care that these "batteries can overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard." Probably not issues to be blasé about.

If you're battery is affected, you'll get a replacement for free, so there isn't any reason not to check. With 70,000 or so batteries being recalled, the chances of having a potentially deadly unit probably aren't that low.

Systems which may be affected are as follows:

  • HP Pavilion dv2000

  • HP Pavilion dv2500

  • HP Pavilion dv2700

  • HP Pavilion dv6000

  • HP Pavilion dv6500

  • HP Pavilion dv6700

  • HP Pavilion dv9000

  • HP Pavilion dv9500

  • HP Pavilion dv9700

  • HP G6000

  • HP G7000

  • HP Compaq 6720s

  • Compaq Presario A900

  • Compaq Presario F700

  • Compaq Presario C700

  • Compaq Presario V3000

  • Compaq Presario V3500

  • Compaq Presario V3700

  • Compaq Presario V6000

  • Compaq Presario V6500

  • Compaq Presario V6700

replacement laptop or battery? either way, mine isn't on that list. wish they'd replace it with a model that isn't so darn glossy. :(

the replacement is for battery.

but, so sad, mine is not included on the list, my battery is out of life, it can only last 10 min, when will HP save it for me? haha

Wow, that link to all the battery recall stories would have been so much better if this wasn't the only story that showed up on page 1. :P

Yeah, I mean I wouldn't say I'm overly picky about laptop specs, but not BURSTING INTO FLAMES is a bit of a dealbreaker for me. Though maybe I should just get off my ivory tower and accept volatile explosives are part and parcel with modern computing.

My laptop used to get SO hot, and the fan would run non stop. It was my first laptop, so I didn't think too much of it at first, but eventually the laptop fan stopped working... Now my laptop will run for about a minute or so, gets warm and shuts down completely. It is one on the list. Do you think I can get my fan replaced?
