Grand Theft Auto IV Dated For PC

Personally I still haven't had (or made) time to play GTA IV just yet, but after the 21st of November, I might be more inclined to do so. That's because Rockstar has just confirmed that as the release date for the PC version of the latest Grand Theft Auto game - and it's not just a straight conversion either.

The most important thing, of course, is that PC gamers will be able to experience the game that many a console owner has been raving about for several months now. Better yet, Rockstar is promising "expanded multiplayer" specifically for the PC. Saying that, PC gamers have been playing GTS online since the days of GTA III PC, thanks to mods such as Theft Auto.

Hopefully some of the bugs the plagued the console games will have been fixed for the PC. Increased draw distances, in particular, would be nice, alongside any other graphics enhancements Rockstar wants to throw at us.

Strange - I had the exact same reaction when I read the article title from the RSS feed.

Great minds... :)

Personally I've always found GTA on the PC to be completely dire.

I wish Rockstar told us the release dates before I bought an XBOX specifically for this game, they didnt even hint it would come out on PC!.. still, i cant complain too much as Im loving XBOX live :)

How can anyone trust a review from someone who's still not even bothered to play the biggest and one the best games ever?

August 7, 2008, 6:37 pm

I can only hope that isn't a serious comment...

@David - think you need to check who does the game reviews on the site and learn the difference between a news story and a review ;)

@Darfuria - GTA is vastly superior on a PC, you can't beat mouse and keyboard combos with a joypad.!

I hope Rockstar will support both mouse & keyboard and 360 controller with the PC release, similar to what Crysis had. I actually preferred playing that game using my controller.

Gordon - How exactly? I've got San Andreas on this machine (3.4GHz Core 2 Duo, 8800GTX, 2GB DDR6400) and it's pretty terrible compared to the console version.

Horses and course Darfuria - except you're wrong ;)

GTA PC is better - end of. state your reasons why it isn't better on a pc (i'm assuming you're comparing console to pc)

PC version will no doubt have better graphics (frame rate mostly I hope) than the PS3 version, but that aside it's still a pretty dull game. I've endured 34% of it so far (over 20 hours) and it's alright as an occasional playing experience but it's not very engrossing. It's impressive in terms of the effort that must have been put into making such a huge game, but it's not as gripping as Half Life 1 or 2 (which were both longer than they needed to be) or the excellent Call Of Duty 1 and 2 single player games. And the side missions in GTA4 are stupidly pointless and irritating.

Not to mention the fact that the multiplayer modes just aren't worth playing compared to other dedicated deathmatch or team based games. And the original version of Carmageddon had more interesting driving game modes!

Overall, I guess I'm frustrated that I've played it for so long and feel like I've had so little reward. Perhaps it's just symptomatic of sandbox style games?

I completed the game on XBOX 360 and loved it!! I love the fact you get choices throughout the game which change the outcome of the game.

Its a shame the map is quite small and that you cant fly planes in this version but hopefully that will come in the next game.

The multiplayer is OK but gets boring after a while, hopefully on the PC we may see more than a max of 16 people per game like we do on COD4. Online would be sooo much better with 50 people running around causing havoc!
