The family unit, it’s a much underrated thing these days. Long gone are the times when regular weekend visits to aunties and uncles were the norm and long, torturous, silent Sunday lunches were sat through with gritted teeth. Perhaps there is just too much English cynicism in me, but then again I live in a country where it rains one day in three.
So thank you Hercules for sending us the most entertaining press release we've read in ages. It suggests wireless technology is the key to solving regular family squabbles and, you know, they might just be onto something.
Traditionally a graphics card manufacturer of some note, Hercules is expanding into wireless products. It has now released a full range of routers, PCI, PCMCIA, and USB wireless products and it wants to fix warring families at the same time, which is very noble. Meet the WhyFi family, Hercules’ take on something akin to the Fokkers.
As Hercules informs us, Mr WhyFi often grumbles about not being able to surf the web from his sofa because the cables are too short from his wired connection and Mrs WhyFi hates cable clutter. The WhyFi kids are unhappy too because they want their own Internet connection for whatever it might be that kids want a private connection for?
Consequentially, the WhyFis “Join in the Hercules Wireless Attitude!” They buy Hercules products, including an 802.11g wireless router which “reigns unobtrusively” in the living room and everything installs in a straightforward manner using the Hercules WiFi Station Software Wizard that comes with each product.
Of course now the WhyFis are wireless they are happy again. Hercules reports that Mr WhyFi was able to transfer special photos from across the sea to his desktop computer, that were then viewed by the rest of the family from their terrace. Father and son enjoyed networked gaming and foxy Mrs WhyFi hid away in the bedroom one morning to search online for a little romantic trip for Mr WhyFi’s birthday (?).
Around the TrustedReviews offices we’ve developed a soft spot for the WhyFis, we wish them well.
Hercules Wi-Fi certified 802.11g/b compatible wireless products are available now. Prices begin at £34.99 for the PCMCIA and PCI cards, £39.99 for the USB 2.0 key and £89.99 for the “veritable brain of your wireless network”, or we like to call it: the router.
