For those of you who read Riyad’s hyper enthused preview of Gears of War in May you’ll be positively bowled over to hear the wait is nearly over.
17 November is the official release date and developer Epic is calling it “Emergency Day” which seems apt since I may well have to bring out the defibrillators to shock my delirious editor back to reality. It surely comes as no coincidence either that 17 November is my dad’s birthday the launch date of a certain console known as the PlayStation 3 ;)
The story itself – for what’s its worth – tells the tale of mankind’s struggle against the monstrous Locust Horde and has already been awarded the critic’s choice winner for the E3 2006 Best Console Game. Both standard and limited editions of the title will be available from day one, the latter providing an official “Destroyed Beauty” art book and a bonus DVD featuring an inside look at the making of the game — all enclosed in a metal box.
Built up by Neil Martin, Head of Buying at high street megastore Game UK, as “the best gaming experience on any format this year” Gears of War certainly has a lot to live up to, but if you head back over here you’ll discover within a few paragraphs that it appears to be no idle boast.
I don’t think I’m chancing my arm to say you can expect to see a review of Gears of War on the site 24/48 hours after release and there’ll be no prizes for guessing who’ll be writing it…!
