Gear4 already has a comprehensive range of portable iPod speaker docks and is likewise well-endowed with non-portable products. Now Gear4 has launched a product that magically (well, it could be magic) combines the two aspects into one device, garnering it the inspired name: the Gear4 Duo.
The system comprises a stationary 20W sub woofer and a front-mount, detachable unit which houses all 18W of the rest of the speakers. This front piece also houses the iPod dock and has a rechargeable battery allowing it to be moved around away from the base station.
When re-attached to the main unit music playback should continue uninterrupted, unless the improved bass response as the sub woofer kicks in counts as an interruption. The battery is also charged when connected, although it can be powered separately as well for that extra bit of convenience.
The Gear4 Duo carries an MSRP of £149.99 and will be available from the 1st of June. As it happens Gear4 actually sent us a Duo prior to today's launch and a full review should appear tomorrow, so watch this space.
