It seems to be a day for dates, prices and ripping off the English (or is that everyday?). Next contender: the GameBoy Micro.
Arriving on 4 November - two months after its US release on 19 September – the Micro will cost those of us who pronounce aluminium, tomato and vitamin correctly £69. That’s not unreasonable, though the Yanks will shell out just $99 which is under £55.
Putting all this bitterness behind us (I’m ranted out), the GameBoy Micro does look to be a tasty piece of kit. I gave it a full preview here back in May, but to surmise you’ll benefit from super portability with dimensions of just 10 x 5 x 1.8cm and a weight of only 79g. The classic GameBoy controls straddle a wide aspect 2in colour screen with adjustable brightness levels, though we are still don’t know what battery life will be.
A removable facia, dare I say it, just like the Xbox 360 will no doubt lead to an endless array of tasteful and tasteless alternatives. Expect many of them to be Christmas themed. Kids begin the emotional blackmail of your parents now, grown ups remember to share it with the little darlings…
