The moment 10TACLE Studios announced it was publishing a game based around the Oktoberfest Beer Festival I knew I liked them. When they subsequently released top notch racing simulation GTR I liked them even more. Now that they have announced its follow-up will be debuting ahead of schedule, however, I think I may start sending them anonymous cards and start snooping outside their homes with a high powered zoom lens.
GT Legends is the name of the successor to the heavily praised GTR. It is already in its final testing phase and will be released in October, waaay ahead of the anticipated Chrimbo period.
As for the game itself, fans of the GTR will chuffed to learn that Legends has been rebuilt around a new DirectX 9 graphics engine, significantly upping the detail on the cars and displaying the racing scenery with full shader support, enabling dynamic changes between night and day.
For car freaks over 90 of the most “legendary” (clever marketing, huh? Huh?) will be featured, including the Ford GT40, Mecerdes 300SL, Ford Capri (get your boy racer on) and Austin Mini Cooper.
Five levels of difficulty promise to vary the challenge, allowing newbies to immediately pick up the reins and haggard old pros to face a test worthy of their thinning leather gloves and fly splattered faces.
There are 10 officially licensed tracks from all across Europe, a career mode allowing players to buy, sell and collect cars, multiplayer online races and audio sampled directly from each car at GTC-TC events.
Hype for Legends is already building too. The simulator picked up the Best Sports Game Award at E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) in LA last month, while the official website for the title has been up and running since early May.
Will the hefty praise already being heaped on 10TACLE’s developer SimBin be justified? We won’t have to wait long to find out. That said, classic cars, photorealistic graphics and a smooth production period can’t hold a flame to the potential of a title about getting hammered in Munich. (I hope we get to wear lederhosen...!)
