Following on from leaks a couple of weeks earlier, Fujitsu Siemens has gone and offered up an official announcement of its U2010 UMPC tablet. As well as revealing that the system will come in a choice of five colours, the new details indicate that the final product will actually have better specs than the uncovered details implied.

The hardware details as we now know them, then, are as follows:

  • 5.6in, 1,280 x 800 (up from the previously reported 1,024 x 768)
  • 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z530 CPU
  • 1GB RAM (as standard)
  • 60GB spindle hard drive or 64GB solid state drive.
  • Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS
  • 8-hour battery life (5800mAh battery pack)
  • Fingerprint reader
Helping distinguish the U2010 from its similar-looking netbook brethren, Microsoft's Origami Experience 2.0 is installed, adding an additional level of touch-screen friendly UMPC-centric functionality over a standard Windows install. Still no official pricing yet, but at least we know the system will come in Ocean Black, Pink Gold, Cool Silver, Fuschia Red, and Luminous Blue right?
