First up is the new Z200fd, a high-spec luxury ultra-compact that joins the Z100fd which was launched earlier this year.
The new model shares many features with the Z100fd, including its 19.8mm-think all-metal body and sliding front cover concealing a 5x optical zoom lens (33-165mm equivalent). Other notable features include Dual Image Stabilisation, Face Detection Technology and automatic intelligent red-eye removal. Images can be stored on a big 52MB of internal memory, plus it is compatible with xD-Picture, SD and SDHC cards.
The Z200fd also has a couple of interesting new features; Couple Timer and Group Timer. Working in combination with Face Detection technology, the self-timer automatically sets off after the camera has detected faces in a frame. The camera won't take the photo if one of the faces is out the frame, so there's no need to worry about someone being missed out of the shot.
The FinePix Z200fd will be available from UK retailers from August. Pricing will be announced nearer to the date of the launch.
The second new model announced this week is the A850 (note that Fujifilm has dropped the FinePix appellation from this model), a AA-powered low cost compact. Fuji's A-series isn't exactly known for its haute-couture styling, but the new A850 is still quite a handsome little thing. It has a fairly modest specification though, with and 8.1 megapixel sensor, 3x optical zoom lens, 2.5-inch LCD monitor and selectable sensitivity up to ISO 800.
The A-series has always been popular with beginners. The A850 has an intuitive, icon-based Graphical User Interface and simple button layout that make it easy for users to navigate through menus and switch between shooting modes and the 14 scene positions.
The FinePix A850 will be available from retailers from July. Pricing will be announced nearer to the date of the launch.
