Evesham subsidiary Lowestontheweb.com has done the cash strapped among us a good turn with the Quest A220. Let’s take a closer look.

Styled entirely with an attractive grey/silver finish this 2.9Kg, 35.5 x 25.5 x 30cm notebook is no bottom end brick. It comes equipped with a hearty AMD Turion 64 MT30 Mobile CPU, 512MB of 333MHz DDR RAM, a 60GB HDD and impressive 15.4in WXGA (1366 x 768) widescreen display.

As you would expect on a budget machine, graphics are on the integrated variety, but you still get built-in wireless, a DVD rewriter and one year warranty (upgradeable to three). A copy of Windows XP Home is preinstalled, though given the 64bit capability of the powerful new Turions you could be forgiven for wanting to give Windows XP 64 a try.

An added bonus comes in the form of the Instant On DVD functionality, which can play discs without powering up the OS.

Best part of the Quest A220, as you might expect, is the price. £699 including VAT is the damage, which means students have plenty of change left from their loans to spend down the SU, while the rest of us can take our extra pounds down the pub where we can moan about what drinking slackers students are.

The Quest A220 will be available any minute from the Lowestontheweb site (link below). If money is tight (or you simply want to have more of it) then you wouldn’t be the daftest person on the planet to check it out.
