Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) announced this week that it will be releasing a laptop featuring an integrated 1.3 mega pixel camera, which the company claims is a world first.
The G220 is aimed at business travellers who want to video conference while on the move, either with the office or with the family back home.
The cameras full resolution will only be employed for still images, and will be useful for when low grade VGA pictures just aren't good enough.
‘Unlike VGA cameras sported by rival laptops, the 1.3 mega pixel camera can take high resolution images ideal for a number of applications,’ says Andrew Tseng, Marketing and Business Project Manager, ECS UK.
As well the camera the G220 aims to appeal to a large audience, thanks to its thin and light frame, which weighs in at less the 2Kg.
Connectivity on the G220 includes a 802.11b/g wireless adaptor and 10/100 Ethernet for wired connections.
It also sports a four-in-one-card reader and PC Card slot, a FireWire port and three USB 2.0 connections.
The laptop is powered by a ‘Dothan’ Pentium M CPU featuring 2MB of cache, with speeds ranging from 1.5GHz up to 2GHz. There’s also a choice of displays available, with the options being a 12.1 XGA screen, or a widescreen WXGA screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio.
Pricing has yet to be confirmed but ECS confirmed that the G220 will be available from September 2004.
