Dell XPS M1530 Gets WSXGA+ & WXGA+ Panels

If you've paid even the slightest attention to our recent reviews of Dell's XPS M1330 and M1530 you'll know they are two of our very favourite notebooks this year. We did have one major issue with the larger M1530 though and, thankfully, it has now been solved…

Shocking us all at the time of its release was Dell's late decision to pull the 1440 x 900 native resolution from the M1530's 15.4in screen and instead install a measly 1280 x 800 pixel panel. More hearty praise for Dell's IdeaStorm website however is due as user feedback has prompted it to provide two far better options.

Consequently, the M1530 will now also be available with a choice of 1440 x 900 and - as a very welcome bonus - 1680 x 1050 screen resolutions which vastly improves the desktop real estate on a machine with Blu-ray aspirations..

In a statement on its blog the company explained:

"Since we launched the XPS M1530, much of the customer feedback has {been} unanimous. Lots of Direct2Dell readers… asked for higher resolution displays… Starting today, customers in the United States can order the notebook with two additional display options. WXGA+ (supports up to 1440 x 900 resolution), WSXGA+ (supports up to 1680 x 1050 resolution).

Even better Dell is actually including the WSXGA+ panel in the price(s) of the M1530 and giving discounts of $50 and $100 to customers who downgrade to WXGA+ and WXGA respectively.

The only fly in the ointment is the question of when these larger panels will be available globally, but be patient because a great notebook just got even better...
