Dell has been in need of a budget desktop replacement laptop, so it's only a small surprise to see its new Inspiron 17 now going on sale in the US. Based around a 16:9 aspect, LED backlit, 17.3in display, the Inspiron 17 will be coming to Europe on 30th July.
Currently available in Obsidian Black, Cherry Red and Ice Blue colours, Dell will eventually sell the Inspiron 17 in pretty much every colour of the rainbow - just as soon as its marketing department can come up with a stupid name for each one.
As ever there's a very large selection of options. Processors include the Intel Pentium Dual Core T4200 (2.0GHz, 800MHz FSB), Core 2 Duo T6500 (2.16GHz, 800MHz FSB), Core 2 Duo P7350 (2.0GHz, 1,066MHz FSB) and Core 2 Duo P8600 (2.4GHz, 1,066MHz FSB), with memory options currently going up to 4GB 800MHz DDR2. Hard drive capacities go as high as 500GB and while the standard graphics option is the Intel X4500M HD integrated chip, 256MB and 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330 graphics are also on-hand.
Currently the 17.3in display is only available in what Dell is now calling the HD+ resolution, which is 1,366 x 768. A Full HD option is coming, but not until September. Blu-ray drives will also be an option, but you'll probably want to wait for the Full HD display if you want one of those. For more pics you can take a look at Dell's flickr page.
