Dell Mini 10 Hits UK

Dell Mini 10 Hits UK

We told you that Dell's Mini 10 netbook would see a UK release not long after hitting the US site and, lo and behold, that launch is coming imminently. The 26th to be precise, according to today's announcement - exactly the same day as in America.

We Brits will be paying form £299 - surprisingly close to the direct dollars to pounds conversion - up, dependant on spec. User customisable options include the size of hard drive, 120GB or 160GB, RAM options, 1GB or 2GB, and the addition of Draft-N to the extant 802.11b/g.

Other features, as you should probably know by now, include red, pink, blue, green, white and black colour options, the name-giving 10.1in, 1,024 x 576 pixel screen and a 92 per cent of 'full sized' keyboard. And, of course, there's an HDMI output and a 6-cell battery good for, Dell says, 6.5 hours.

Dell promises more options later in the year, including Ubuntu - currently its XP or nothing - as the pre-installed OS, built-in GPS and HSDPA modules as well as 'HD options' - whatever that means.

That is a bit better then all these bland netbooks out there.

I've just got an Acer Aspire One on the cheap, so I will be holding off further purchases until all the nextgen netbooks are out. Can anyone confirm the rumour that the Mini 10 can only have 1GB max ?

The text above tells you 1GB and 2GB

The above blog/link review says that the first batch has fixed, un-upgradable 1GB of RAM.

Shouldn't it be "from &#163299" not "form &#163299"?

I've just been looking on the Dell UK site and can't find any reference to the Mini 10 (though i could not be looking in the right place, wouldn't be the first time) which surprises me as I would expect that Dell would make a splash about a pending new system 2 days before it becomes available. Or is it that they know the response will be "meh, another 10" netbook"?

It sounds interesting but I'll wait to see what reviewers think of it or until Tesco get one in-store that I can have a look at and compare to the Samsung NC-10.

"HD options" refer to the 720p display that the machine was shown off with. Don't expect it to be cheap, or available with XP Home, in that config.

I just read a review of this netbook and I'm definitely keeping my eye on it. I was looking at the HP Mini to buy as a carry around device, but I may just hold on. This has some nice features like the HDMI out.

But I'm still holding out for the TR review before I take the jump!

On the Uk dell site, you only have the options of 1gb RAM and 3 cell battery! What's up with that?!?
