Dell Inspiron Duo Teaser Goes Online

Following on from their unveiling of the flipping Inspiron Duo, Dell have today put a snazzy new video on YouTube showing off exactly what the Duo can do. In case you missed the anouncement in September, the Duo will be a cross between a tablet and a netbook. Rather than the traditional twist and flip screen of previous tablet/netbook combinations - such as with the HP TouchSmart tx2 - the Duo's screen sits within a fixed frame and flips vertically on hinges mounted in the sides. This makes it more robust and also allows the device to be slimmer.

At the announcement in September, a Dell exec showed off a gaudy burnt orange-encased model which still had some rough edges. In the new video however, Dell are showing off a sleek new device in a fetching turquoise case which leaves viewers waiting until the final seconds to see the impressive flip function.

The video has obviously been posed to whet the appetite of consumers and we here at TrustedReviews are certainly eager to get our hands on this device. The form factor allows for its slim dimensions while retaining all the functions of a touchscreen tablet and a compact netbook.

With just about 50-odd days left before year end for Dell to bring this to the market and keep their original promise, expect some announcements very soon as they will no doubt want to cash in on the Christmas market.

Is there any indication of price? If its priced aggressivly (i.e slightly more than a satndard netbook but less than an ipad) at around £350 then I can see it doing very well

@Stelph No indication on price or release date yet from Dell. It's keeping its cards close to its chest on this one. I agree though that if they try and keep the price low it will entice people shopping for both a netbook and/or a tablet. Can't wait to try one out to see if its a s smooth as it looks in the video.

@David Gilbert - Thanks, I hope they announce soon as I am getting close to buying a tablet (the archos 101 is very tempting), another question, is it running windows or linux? I assume windows but ive not seen it confirmed anywhere

Also as cool as the flipping is, I hope the hinge is sturdy!

@Stelph - sounds like you are in a similar position as myself. Kind of in limbo just now. The devices just now are tempting enough not to write tablets off but not good enough to part with cash.

Was thinking the same about the hinge! It's why I think something like the Asus 121 or 101 (cant remember which has teh keyboard/laptop dock) seems slightly more sensible.
