Dell Axes Mini 12

Dell Axes Mini 12

Dell's Mini 12 isn't much longer for this world. Following a number of unconfirmed reports, Dell has admitted that the Mini 12 is, indeed, being discontinued.

It's not really a surprising move. Dell is (sensibly) aware that: "It really boils down to this for a lot of customers, 10-inch displays are the sweet spot for netbooks." Hence why Dell is focussed on the Mini 10 and Mini 10v, as that's what its customers want. The Latitude 2100 is said to be doing well on the education side, too.

There are rumours that the Mini 9 might also see itself cut from Dell's netbook line-up, although in the US at least it's still being sold for now. Reports of its death are, for now, greatly somewhat exaggerated, it seems.

According to Dell, to make a larger chassis worthwhile more power is needed, which as we know Atom isn't exactly able to provide. We're advised there's "More to come from Dell on that later," though, suggesting that we might see nVidia Ion Dell netbooks, or maybe a small, CULV-powered system that's just a tad more affordable than the Adamo.

I thought the mini 9 had been discontinued? I certainly can't see it on their UK website (unless I'm being dense).

Hmm i think its more to do with customers buying the 12inch instead of their more expensive laptops that have more profit margins. To me 12 inch is the perfect size for a netbook, and it makes it very usable.

@Darfuria - it axed the Mini 9 earlier this year, so now it and the Mini 12 have both gone. Just the 10 and 10v left.

TR you need to review the Latitude 2100, it looks like a very nice and sturdy netbook. The touch screen is only a £16 add on and the thing is built like a brick without being bulky. Sure it's might be aimed at the school market but I'd say it's got much wider appeal. It's at the top of my list at the moment.

I think this is quite sad :( there isn't enough sub 13.3" notebooks/netbooks. I'm looking for one to just throw in my bag for web surfing and photo syncing without a big blow to my wallet.
