Creative has a veritable army of music players out there and news of another is only going to swell them further.
The latest – and inevitably touted as the greatest – is the Zen Micro Photo. Previewed as far back as March at CeBIT, as the name suggests this addition will add a colour screen and photo viewing capability to the Micro range. It should do this pretty well too since the display will be of the 256k variety and purportedly offer a very wide viewing angle (good for torturing friends and relatives with holiday shots).
On top of this, the Photo will also get a storage bump from 6GB to 8GB while battery life will rise from 12 hours to a more long haul flight friendly 15. Size and weight remain the same at 8.4 x 5 x 1.8cm and 108g, while the much appreciated FM tuner and FM recording are naturally present.
The usual assortment of colours are available (and the obligatory blue glow), but the players still don’t support Mac OSes which is a bummer for about three per cent of the market but, importantly, a real boon to iPod sales. It is not USB mass storage class compliant either.
Still, we all know what we get when we buy a Zen so the advances made with the Photo will either have you running to the shops or hardly raising an eyebrow. The utterly unhelpful US price will be $249, but I reckon we can safely assume it’ll be around an extra £50 by the time it hits these shores towards the end of September/early October.
Sometimes it sucks to be British.
