AM2 Motherboards Spotted

The flowery guys over at DFI has a number of interesting motherboards on display at its stall.

This AM2 motherboard uses the ATI RD580 chipset and its new SB600 south bridge. We didn’t have much luck with our beta board, but it’s good to see that DFI has managed to get things ready.

This motherboard is also AM2, but strangely uses the nForce 4 chipset instead of nForce 5. I said in my recent AM2 article that this was possible, but I wasn’t expecting anyone to actually do it. DFI also had SLI versions on display as well. nForce 4 and nForce 5 are very similar chipsets, so there would be little downside to using an nForce 4 motherboard – but similarly little or no upside to not using nForce 5. One has to wonder why DFI decided to do this – is there something we don’t know? My guess is a pricing and availability issue.

Finally, over on the VIA stand there was this Asus AM2 motherboard, using the KT890 chipset. It’s good to see a healthy amount of AM2 motherboards around!
