Commodore g & gs Now Also Priced Up

Commodore nearly gave me a heart attack last month when it announced the monstrous pricing for its flagship 'xx' and 'gx' gaming desktops, but it has done a little better this time around with the mid-rangers...

Top of the middle, so to speak, is the Commodore 'gs' and for 1,049 of your hard earned pounds it will comprise an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 (2.4 GHz, 4MB Cache) CPU, Asus P5N-E SLI mobo, healthy 500GB 7,200RPM HDD, 2GB of Corsair 800MHz XMS2 Twin2x2048-6400C4 RAM, a DVD rewriter, whopping 750W ICE Cube PSU, integrated HD 7.1 audio, dual nVidia GeForce 8600 GTS graphics cards and Vista Home Premium.

Below this is the Commodore 'g', £100 cheaper at £949 and kitted out with an Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 processor, matching Asus mobo, 250GB 7,200RPM HDD, 2GB of 667MHz Corsair XMS2 TWIN2X2048-5400C4 RAM, a DVD rewriter, more typical 550W ICE Cube PSU, obviously the same onboard 7.1 HD audio, a single nVidia GeForce 8500 GT graphics card with 256MB VRAM and Vista Home Premium.

All prices include VAT and are a darn sight more reasonable than the (admittedly niche) xx and gx, though the gs is clearly the sweet spot of latest pair.

Like the xx and gx the cases can also be personalised with your choice of artwork and are inter-swappable (should you want a change down the line). Another rather fun touch is the fact that both machines come with a pre-installed C64 emulator with the ability to play more than 50 classic games. C64 emulators and their games can be found for free online of course but it saves the hassle and provides a nice link to Commodore past.

Now if only Commodore bundled a free widescreen monitor... ;)
