Canon has announced the 4 Megapixel PowerShot A85. This replaces the PowerShot A70, which has the honour of being one of the most popular cameras in Canon’s seventy-year history.

Canon claims that the camera features improved ergonomics and styling. The camera includes a 1.8in LCD, 13 shooting modes, and can take up to 30 seconds of VGA resolution movie clips with audio.

Accessories include wide and tele convertors, a close-up lens and a waterproof case.

The focus system has been upgraded to a 9-point AiAF, which should deliver consistently sharp results. There’s a 3x optical zoom, which goes up to an 11x with digital assistance.

Prints can be made directly from the camera when connected to a compatible PictBridge of Direct Print photo printer or PC. The bundled software includes ZoomBrowser EX for browsing and printing images and PhotoStich as well as ArcSoft PhotoImpression and VideoImpression.

Picture Transfer Protocol enables the camera to be attached to any Windows XP and Mac OSX system without needing a driver installation.

The camera will be available in August 2004 for an RRP of £239. For more take a look at www.canon.co.uk.
