Canon has announced the addition of a compact mobile photo printer to its range. At just 52mm thick, weighing only 1.8 kg and with a surface area less than the A4 sheets it can print, the iP90 is considerably smaller than competing models. Canon claims it can print a 4in x 6in borderless photo in just 51 seconds, while also being capable of 16 pages per minute A4 mono printing. The native resolution is 4,800 x 1,200 dpi and the printer can put down ink droplets of just two picolitres.

Bluetooth and IrDA support are optional extras. This would be handy for a mobile printer enabling easy printing from PCs, PDAs and even mobile phones. The Bluetooth adaptor BU-10 integrates seamlessly into the front of the unit. An optional slimline LK-51B Rechargeable Battery and Charger Kit enables printing of up to 450 pages from a single charge.

A PictBridge port enables direct connection and photo printing from any compliant digital camera or digital video camera, without the need for a PC.

The PIXMA iP90 will be available from March 2005 for £199 including VAT or €287.32 including VAT.
