CONFIRMED: Asus Verifies UK Pricing for New Eee PC SKUs

You may recall that earlier on in the week we brought you yet another scoop, this time providing new details on specification and pricing for the upcoming update to the Asus Eee PC.

We already knew that a new 8.9in, 1,024 x 600 Eee PC was imminent and that a Windows XP version was also on the cards, but pricing and precise specification were open to debate. However, our source told us that there would be two new SKUs, the Eee PC 900 Win and Eee PC 900, with the former featuring Windows XP pre-installed, 1GB RAM and a 12GB SSD for just £329 inc. VAT. More intriguing, though, was the latter new Linux edition, which we were told would house 20GB of storage and retail for the same price as the XP version.

And, today, the good folks at Asus UK called us to confirm that these prices are indeed correct and that it won't be too long at all until we see them at retail. Regrettably, Asus also confirmed that these new systems would not be using Intel's new Atom CPU, instead relying upon the Mobile Celeron processor used in the original Eee PC. This didn't come as much of a surprise, however, and Asus' spokesperson added that we'd likely see Atom equipped Eee PCs later in the year - hardly a stretch of the imagination either.

This is all very good news for those who've been waiting for this new edition to arrive, though doubts still remain as to whether Asus will be able to meet predictably high demand. If it can't we'd wager on retailers hiking the prices higher as they have done with the current generation of Eee PCs. We should be getting our hands on a new Eee PC soon, so keep an eye out for a review soon!
