C&C3 Looks The Business

It is Friday afternoon so best leave you all with a healthy slice of positive gaming news: Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars is shaping up to be one heck of a head turner.

Announced back in April, fans of the genre have been particularly weary of what new owner EA Games had in store for them since acquiring and shutting down their beloved Westwood Studios. Red Alert 2 was not particularly well received either but a rash of screen shots have started to appear across the web and – as you can see – the long awaited sequel to C&C: Tiberian Sun looks truly gorgeous.

The blurb is that the title will be set in 2047 and Tiberium – the self replicating alien substance that has infected the Earth – is spreading across the planet like a radioactive ice age. The GDI, the high-tech alliance of the world's most advanced nations, is fighting to contain Tiberium, but Kane - the megalomaniacal leader of The Brotherhood of NOD (a secret society turned superpower) - wants to use Tiberium to take control of the world and transform humanity into his twisted vision of the future. Naturally enough you get placed slap back in the middle as all out war rages over Tiberium and consequently the fate of the planet.

One downside to the development is Frank Klepacki, the series’ composer for its memorable score, won’t be doing the tracks for C&C3 and impatience makes us add that the release date is still rather loosely described as ‘2007’. As consolation the games’ official website is up and running and hardcore fans can subscribe to a podcast which provides regular updates on Tiberium War’s progress here.

So for now we can but gaze dreamily at the titles’ drop dead gorgeous graphics, prey EA doesn’t treat the famous brand with all the love and care of a Michael Bay production and chant the mantra: Beauty Is Never Skin Deep…
