Yes, the company has now gone and re-pledged its allegiance instead to a dual format player. This is naturally far better for us as the tepid format war was already old before either disc slunk out onto the street.
So goodbye to the BD199 (LG’s first announced Blu-ray player) and goodbye to the Darren Campbell launched BD100 and hello to the as yet unnamed device that could save us all a lot of unnecessary bother. I have no idea whether it will feature any of the NEC and Ricoh dual format capable components I covered in July and October but it seems logical unless LG has been keeping something rather special from us.
Technically tomfoolery aside, however, the best news is that the company plans not only to show off such a concept but also announce info on commercial availability and pricing! Yes, you heard that right so let’s not pray it isn’t £2,000 and December 2008.
