Belkin Unveils Two-in-One HDMI Switch

As much as I do like to rave on about fancy TVs, HD media players, games consoles and so forth, there are other high definition related products out there that can kindle my interest, and some of them are endearingly simple. Take for example Belkin's latest HDMI switch; OK, so enabling two HDMI outputting products to connect to one HDMI input on a TV or projector doesn't sound particularly inspired but it's a darn sight cheaper than replacing that SIM2 projector with a newer model just because you need a third HDMI input.

The device is powered by the HDMI ports to which it connects, which is a nice touch and an infra-red remote is included for switching between the two inputs - useful seeing as they won't do it themselves. Unlike some earlier, similar, products, resolutions all the way up to 1080p are supported and importantly HDCP compliance is maintained.

Currently the switch is only available in the US, but Belkin says it will arrive in Europe next year; usually that would be a bad sign, but next year is less than a month away so I'll let Belkin of the hook. Price wise the device is going for around $50, which would probably translate to about £35 over here - for that money, it seems like a pretty decent solution to an HDMI-port shortage problem. Eyes peeled for that UK release.
