Asus has been a busy little bee in recent weeks. It has impressed us with the F3JP, made a stunning media center and produced a powerhouse HD DVD laptop but it’s important not to rest on one’s laurels.
Spicing up life for the hardcore mobile gamer this time around are the (green LEDed) G1 and (red LEDed) G2. Packing 15.4in and 17in LCDs respectively the models are available with WXGA or WSXGA native resolutions and a choice of Intel Core 2 Duo processors right up to the T5500. Furthermore a separate ‘OLED Instant Display’ shows battery life and performance stats away from the main screen and can be customised to show personal messages and even caller IDs.
On the graphics side the two split with the G1 opting for nVidia (hence the green?) with a GeForce Go 7700 with 512MB RAM and the G2 deciding ATI is its preferred partner (ditto red?) choosing an ATI Mobility Radeon X1700, also with 512MB RAM. Up to 2GB of DDR2 RAM can be fitted and hard drives max out at 160GB. LightScribe compatible dual layer DVD burners make it onboard too along with 1.3MP integrated webcams. Connectivity is also extensive with Bluetooth 2.0, wireless a/b/g, an ExpressCard slot, memory card reader and gigabit Ethernet.
Pricing has yet to be nailed down though the G2 is expected to have an RSP of $3,588. Global availability for both is anticipated for late November and you'll get a tasty matching bag thrown in. Watch this space.
