Asus Eee PC 1002HA Spotted

What kind of week would it be if there wasn't yet another Asus Eee PC SKU here to temp us to part with our cash. The latest offering is called the Eee PC 1002HA and its purpose seems to be bringing the S101 styling down to a more reasonable price point - we certainly won't complain about that.

Specs, then, according to French site blogeee.net, are unsurprising with 1.6GHz N270 Atom CPU, 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive (hence the 'H' in the name) as well as a two cell (really?) 4200mAh battery. The chassis is exactly the same as the S101, so there's nothing to report on here.

In fact the only change seems to be the reported reduction in battery capacity move from SSD to mechanical storage, and a reduction in price to suit. Supposedly in France the 1000HA will cost some -449 (~£359) some £90 less than the S101. It's just a shame that with a 2 cell battery the 1000HA isn't exactly going last long away from a socket.

These aren&#8217t good news&#8230 if the Eee PC S101 is the &#8220best&#8221 netbook Asus can come up with... Don&#8217t get me wrong &#8211 I know the S101 computers are light and stylish &#8211 but the so-called &#8220ultimate&#8221 or &#8220elite&#8221 S101 and all the new Eee PC models after the 1000/1000H should come with at least 7h batteries. Plus, these netbooks could perfectly carry 3G, touchscreen and at least a 1.3MPixel webcam.

I&#8217m really compelled to think that Asus&#8217 N10/N10J models respect what Eee used to stand for more than these silly fashionable Eee PC S101 and Eee PC 1002 models&#8230 Afterall, not only is the N10J reasonably compact (aprox. size of Eee PC 1000) but it also comes with longer battery life, better performance and lower price. Note that, while the N10(J) is larger than the Eee PC S101, it still surpasses the &#8220ultimate&#8221 S101 in two important &#8220Eee factors&#8221: battery life and price.

After the 904, 900A, S101 and 1002HA disappointments, I&#8217m already expecting the S91 to come out as a superstyled 8.9-incher with less autonomy than the 901&#8230 The T101? It&#8217s probably a Terminator with touchscreen &#8211 Don&#8217t worry, I&#8217m sure Asus will make the Terminator fashion-friendly&#8230 I can only hope Asus&#8217 Eee PC T101 and Eee PC S91 aren&#8217t messed-up like these 1002HA&#8230
