Asus Dropping 7in & 8.9in Eee PCs

We may have loved Asus' 7in and 8.9in Eee PCs when they launched but the 10.2in Eee PC 1000H is where it's at now. That's a sentiment echoed by Asus President Jerry Shen who has announced that all but 10in Eee systems will be slowly phased out - with no plan of replacement.

The Eee PC's success only seems likely to grow as the company is set to adjust pricing of mid- and low-end systems. 2009 should even see the launch of a $200 (~£130) Eee PC model which would be a pretty compelling option in this ever more budget-constrained climate.

The Eee PC range is currently contributing to some 22 per cent of Asus' revenue, which is pretty remarkable for a product only introduced a year ago. Interestingly of its Eee shipments, hard drive-based systems are outselling those with SSDs by 70 percent to 30 per cent of all units sold. Presumably most consumers are still set in the "more storage is better" mentality, not caring about the benefits solid-state storage can offer.
