Apple iPod Nano: 0.69cm Thick!

The whole point of digital music players is that they should be slim and light, Apple showed that it understands this in spades today with the release of the stunning iPod Nano.

With dimension of just 9 x 4 x 0.69cm and weighing just 42g, the Nano kills off the iPod mini and surprisingly few tears will be shed as it looks destined to become the next must-have Apple product. In additionb, despite its teeny size, the Nano still packs in a 3.81cm colour screen (capable of displaying photos and album art), 14 hours of battery life, comes in 2GB and 4GB Flash memory varieties and is built around the company’s industry leading ClickWheel interface. Love em or hate em, I think most have to agree this latest iPod looks pretty special.

Interestingly, the feline obsessed white fetishist has chosen to release the Nano in just black and white variants, which puts an end to the (in my opinion rather tacky) rainbow colours of the minis. This decision should prove a hit with guys, but how will it go down with our loveable, if crazy minded, XYs?

On a more practical side, Apple has managed to bring its charge times down substantially, with 100 per cent capacity reached in three hours and 80 per cent achieved in just 90 minutes. The Nano also retains the same dock connector as its forebears meaning all those iPod accessories you bought aren’t suddenly redundant.

The Nanos currently have a five day waiting list on the Apple site, and will set you back £139 for 2GB and £179 for 4GB. Still, the delay should give those of you who just bought iPod minis the necessary time to run kicking and screaming back to the stores ;)
