I doubt even the most ardent of Palm fans would accuse me of bias if I suggested the Treo range has stood rather still of late. Today however it has definitely remembered its morning Cappuccino...
With the launch of the 'Treo 500V' Palm is shifting focus somewhat towards a younger/hipper (Do young people use 'hip'? Does asking that make me old? Sheesh) audience. Previously codenamed 'Otto', it is a Windows Mobile 6 based 3G smartphone with a curvy new design, QVGA 64k (we were hoping for 262k) colour screen and support for Push email and viewing - but not editing - Microsoft Office documents.
A 2MP camera, 256MB of total onboard memory (150MB user available), microSD slot, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR and impressive battery life (10 days standby, 270 minutes talk time) round things off. At 120g and measuring 110 x 62 x 17mm the 500v is fairly portable (though we've seen thinner) and Vodafone says it will come free with most midlevel monthly tariffs and above.
Welcome back to the world Palm. It seems you've returned refreshed after your sleep.
