Update (December 14) Acer has just confirmed to TrustedReviews that their dual screen laptop, the Iconia, will go on sale in the UK from 14 January at £1,499.

On 23 November Acer hit us with a lot of new products at once including a trio of tablets, a smartphone and, possibly the most interestingly of all. a dual-screen laptop called the Iconia. Among the plethora of questions which the launch threw up were: When, Where and How much?

Some of these questions have been partially answered by a release from Acer in Spain which confirmed the Iconia would be available in the Iberian country from 28 January and will retail for a cool €1,499. Now Acer has confirmed the laptop will be on sale in the UK two weeks earlier on 14 January but will cost significantly more than in Spain at £1,499.

The Iconia runs Windows 7 Home Premium, and features two 14-inch, high-definition displays packaged in a clamshell design. Under the hood there are also some very impressive specs including an Intel Core i5-480 chip, 4GB of RAM and 640GB storage. Unfortunately however the Iconia only has a four cell battery which will give you only three hours of life – which is pretty pointless really. The device will also be far from easily portable weighing in at 2.8kgs. There will be two USB 2.0 ports and one USB 3.0 port.

We managed to get a hands-on look at the device when it was announced over in New York a few weeks ago and the idea certainly is a novel one though whether people will agree its worth shelling out almost £1,300 for an unproven technology is another matter.
