Back in October we caught sight of an Acer laptop with a 3D display, and today, Acer announced its UK availability, complete with updated chassis.
The Aspire 5745DG has a 15.6in LCD display running at 120Hz and is given its 3D gifts thanks to Nvidia’s 3D Vision technology. While 3D content is still thin on the ground, Acer’s Arcade Deluxe software will convert 2D movies into 3D on the fly. Adding to the entertainment mix is Dolby Home Theater audio, claiming a pseudo surround sound experience even over a pair of headphones from either DVD or the optional Blu-ray drive.
Processor wise there’s a full choice of either Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 processors, while Nvidia’s GT 425M takes care of the graphics and should be sufficient for some reasonable gaming and high quality video playback.
The presence of 802.11n Wi-Fi, Gigabit LAN and Bluetooth 3.0 means you’ve can connect at the fastest speeds possible, and the Crystal Eye webcam has a 1,280 x 1,024 native resolution.
Acer describes the 5745DG as being ‘graced by a streamlined profile and chic design’ and judging from the picture, it’s not an outrageous claim. We certainly like the look of the large keyboard, the dedicated number pad and the brushed metal multi-gesture number pad.
Of course, whether the 3D feature is going to be much of a draw is uncertain, but with several manufacturers offering them, they’re certainly giving them a go. If the idea of 3D portable 3D gaming and movies appeal, the Acer Aspire 5745DG is available now with an RRP of £899.99.
