If you have a Phenom 9850 X4 Black Edition and are sitting contentedly knowing you have AMDs fastest available processor chugging along in your PC prepare to be disappointed because AMD has just introduced the Phenom X4 9950 Black Edition, it's new highest-end product - along with a couple of energy efficient lower-priced models two.
According to DailyTech, the 9950 sports a 140W TDP, a 2.6GHz (multiplier unlocked) clock speed, while the 9530e and 9150e have (significantly lower) 65W TDPs and a 2.0GHz and 1.8GHz clock speed respectively. Both the 9350e and 9150e have a 65W TDP and all three CPUs have a 2MB L3 cache.
While AMD may not be able to compete on a clock for clock basis with Intel, but as the slowest (and thus least power hungry) 45nm Core 2 Quad 9300 still has a lofty 95W TDP, AMD can definitely put up a fight when it comes to power efficiency. In small form factor systems where thermal constraints can become a big issue, AMD's energy efficient Phenoms could well pose a better option than an Intel's Core 2 Quads.
It's not over for AMD yet…
