With its Q4 revenue down it was hardly surprising to hear that AMD is lowering its staff count. According to sources of our good friends at bit-tech, those cuts are now hitting the UK, with a large number of staff being culled from AMD's workforce at its UK base in Frimley.
While no specific information is available, but the implication is that the cuts are pretty widespread. Supposedly the sales department is relatively untouched while the engineering, marketing and administration teams have been hit hardest.
That such a move makes relative sense - clearly selling products is AMD's priority right now - will be of no comfort to those no longer working for the company. Hopefully more information will be available shortly, although AMD is likely to want to keep the bad news under wraps as much as possible.
Anyone care to place a bet on who's next to be affected by the recession?
